Invisalign®
Tooth misalignment can cause several serious issues. Not only do they impact the quality of your smile, but they also can have a significant effect on your oral health. Crooked teeth can lead to uneven or excessive tooth wear, an increased risk for tooth decay, gum disease, and TMJ pain. For years, the only treatment available for correcting this was metal braces. Today, Naborowski Orthodontics offers an alternative to traditional metal braces with Invisalign.
The Problem With Traditional TreatmentMetal braces use brackets and wires to correct the alignment of your teeth. Despite being a highly effective treatment, traditional metal braces do have several downsides. One of the biggest disadvantages of metal braces is their visibility. While this might not be such a big deal for younger patients, it can be a significant issue for older teens and adults. Just the thought of having a metal smile can cause them to avoid a treatment that could otherwise vastly improve both their smile and their oral health. In addition to their visibility, metal braces can also be uncomfortable and difficult to care for. Brackets can rub the soft tissues of your cheeks, causing sores. Wires may break, which can then poke your intraoral tissues. Moreover, trying to brush and floss around your braces can be difficult to do properly, which can then increase your risk for cavities and also cause decalcification of your teeth, leading to white spots appearing on your teeth.
Correcting Your Smile With Invisalign Clear AlignersInvisalign is different. Rather than brackets and wires to move your teeth, Invisalign uses clear plastic aligners to achieve the same results. Because the aligners are clear, they are practically invisible in your mouth. No one will be able to tell that you are wearing them. In addition to their invisibility, Invisalign aligners are also removable. While they should be worn for 20 to 22 hours each day for optimal results in the shortest amount of time, they should be taken out when you eat and when you brush your teeth.
How Does Invisalign Work? With Invisalign, you use a series of aligners. Depending on your specific situation, you may go through anywhere from 18 to 30 different sets. Each set of aligners is made to be worn for only two weeks at a time before you move on to the next set. Each set of aligners is slightly different from the one before it, designed to move your teeth to where they need to go. These aligners are created from impressions of your mouth. These impressions are displayed in 3D on our computer monitor and allow us to custom create aligners based on your specific needs. This technology also allows us, and you, to see every step of your treatment from start to finish. You can see what your smile will look like before you even begin your treatment.
