Traditional Treatment for Crooked TeethTraditionally, crooked teeth have been corrected using metal braces. Metal brackets are bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth. A wire stretches across the entire arch, attached to each bracket with the use of an elastic O-ring. The wire is responsible for the bulk of the work, putting pressure on your teeth to loosen them in their periodontal ligaments and move them into their proper locations. Once there, the wires hold them steady while the bone and ligaments heal. While highly effective, metal braces are also extremely visible and can be the source of significant embarrassment.
What Is Damon Clear?Damon Clear is a clear type of Damon braces. Rather than metal brackets, Damon Clear relies on clear brackets bonded to the fronts of your teeth. Instead of elastic O-rings holding the wires in place on the brackets, the brackets have a sliding mechanism. This sliding mechanism automatically tightens the wires as your teeth are moved to their proper positions. With this treatment, your braces are practically invisible. Most people will not even be able to tell that you are wearing them.
Why Not Use Clear Aligners?Clear aligners like Invisalign® have become quite popular in recent years. Rather than brackets and wires, these treatments use removable clear plastic aligners to correct the alignment of your teeth. While aligners can be effective for some patients, they are not the ideal solution for everyone. For instance, if you have a more significant alignment issue, aligners may not be able to correct it.
